SNAP, TACKLE, CRUNCH Breakfast Bowl Contest

The Dairy Council of Florida is sponsoring the SNAP, TACKLE, CRUNCH Breakfast Bowl Contest for all Florida K-12 students in schools participating in the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. SNAP, TACKLE, CRUNCH is an opportunity for students to show off their creative talents, while helping reinforce positive nutrition and physical activity messages at breakfast.
Cereal Box Theme:Students should plan to create a cereal concept and name it accordingly (for example, the Milk Monsters). The goal of the contest is to have students build a health-themed cereal box design around their cereal concept.
  • The cereal concept should promote good nutrition and 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Food groups that must be included in the concept include low-fat and fat-free dairy, fruit, vegetables and whole grains.
  • Examples of appropriate things to include in a cereal box design include original artwork, pictures, games, puzzles, jokes, education and nutrition and physical activity messaging.
Format: The cereal box design should be creative in nature and designed only on the cereal box template provided by this program. Designs can be done in crayon, paint, pencil, ink, felt-tip pen and/or charcoal. Students are strongly encouraged to sketch their design concept on paper first to ease the revision process. Teachers will be provided with only one template per student. Students should plan on designing all panels on their cereal box.
JUDGING CRITERIA: Cereal boxes will be judged by the sponsors of
the contest on:
1. Promotion of good nutrition and 60 minutes of physical activity
2. Originality
3. Creativity
4. Clarity
5. Grammar, punctuation and spelling

Rube Goldberg

Reuben Lucius Goldberg (July 4, 1883 – December 7, 1970) was an American cartoonist, sculptor, author, engineer, and inventor. Goldberg is best known for a series of popular cartoons he created depicting complex devices that perform simple tasks in indirect, convoluted ways – now known as Rube Goldberg machines. Goldberg received many honors in his lifetime including a Pulitzer Prize for his political cartooning.

Rube Goldberg gets his think-tank working and evolves the simplified pencil-sharpener.

Open window (A) and fly kite (B). String (C) lifts small door (D) allowing moths (E) to escape and eat red flannel shirt (F). As weight of shirt becomes less, shoe (G) steps on switch (H) which heats electric iron (I) and burns hole in pants (J). Smoke (K) enters hole in tree (L), smoking out opossum (M) which jumps into basket (N), pulling rope (O) and lifting cage (P), allowing woodpecker (Q) to chew wood from pencil (R), exposing lead. Emergency knife (S) is always handy in case opossum or the woodpecker gets sick and can't work.

Remember the game Mouse Trap?...Rube Goldberg style
